X-MAS SONGS ON METAL GUITAR? Rock On Trans-Siberian Orchestra!

On Saturday, I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert at the Key Arena, probably one of the most amazing concerts I have ever been to.

If you love classical music and Christmas music, get ready to be blasted away. They perform on much of your traditional string instruments which are amped up a thousand times over. The band's musical style incorporates progressive rock, symphonic metal, and heavy metal, with influences from classical music. They have some intense pyrotechnics, fireworks, full laser light show that are all synchronized with their performance.

As a Program's Intern for the Starlight Children's Foundation, I was given free front row tickets to watch the concert along with numerous Starlight families. As a special bonus to our company, we were humbly given the opportunity to hand a signed guitar to one of the Starlight children at the very end of the show. We finally picked a child and he had a huge smile on his face when he heard about his gift. His parents of course loved us and were extremely happy for giving him this opportunity which is what Starlight tries to aim for in every Great Escapes event.

I brought my Girlfriend to watch it and she loved it. These performers are extremely talented and amazing. Their combined skill and passion made for an evening of extraordinary showmanship and entertainment.

The opening half of the event focused on a beautiful Christmas story narrated in between adapted and improvised versions of many popular Christmas Carols, but done in a way where it amazes you. The music and insane light show culminate in a warm wish for all of a Merry Christmas which included a fake snow shower.

The second half of the concert featured works from their new album and it did not disappoint. They truly saved the best for last and wowed us over and over again. The best part was when the electric violin and guitar were blasted off to the ceiling on some sort of ship. I was speechless. The talent of the musicians and the high energy of the visual part of the show was extraordinary
