For the first few years of college, my friends and me always went to one Thai restaurant: Thai 65. It was actually the very first restaurant I went to when I moved to UW. It was really cool back then; their little back area had these little short tables and you sat on the ground, which was an interesting experience. I wish they had kept it that way, but a few weeks into my freshman year, they put regular tables back there instead. They also blatantly showed their disdain for low tips and pointed at their tip jar regularly when customers were paying, which was a little annoying.
I dealt with the bad (and rude) service, because they had decent food, the place was quiet enough to have a good conversation, and it was a short distance from campus and from the dorms I lived in. I would have tolerated it even longer, but then they took away one of my most cherished ingredients: BEEF! I didn't understand how they could do that; beef is an essential ingredient for most of my meals. I remember the first day I went in there and they didn't have beef; it also happened to be the last day. I literally walked out and didn't order anything.
People think I exaggerate my relationship with beef, but I totally do not. I mean once in a while, I'll order chicken (and usually it's fried), but when I'm feeling beef, I'm gonna get some beef. And when I go to get Thai food, I expect that I'm going to eat beef. So after the beef debacle, I've had to move to a different Thai restaurant, on the same block. It isn't nearly as good, with the way they cook it or the sauce, but at least they have beef, and that makes all the difference.
