If someone were visiting me in Madison, had never been here before, and really wanted to get a taste of Wisconsin, I would definitely take them to Old Fashioned. Their website says it all, "With a commitment to local producers and traditions, and a nod to time-tested recipes, our original menu embodies Wisconsin's rich culinary history." They have great food that showcase typical Wisconsin fare like bratwurst and cheese in unique ways. In addition, they have "lazy susans" that allow you to sample an assortment of meats, cheeses, pickles, and salads. As the name implies, they are known for their old fashion-eds, a popular Wisconsin drink consisting of brandy, bitters, sugar, and muddled oranges and cherries. They have a couple different variations but I recommend the traditional with brandy. If your more of a beer person, no worries, they have over 150 of them. So if you're in town for a night and really want to get Wisconsin on a plate, Old Fashioned is the place to go.
