Chicago is not only good for pizza.

Every town across the states is good for a specific recipe. Chicagoans love pizza, deep dish, 4-cheese, cheesy crust, peperoni, sausage, mushro-. . . OK I'll stop, but you get my point. I would like to let you in on a different place. It will make you savor every last kernel and possibly eat the crumbs. Garrett's is a popcorn shop and are placed conveniently around the Chicago-land area.

My mom introduced me to this place. One day she came home from work and had a shopping bag sized Garrrett's bag. I assumed she went shopping, plus I'd never heard of this place before. She pulled out three smaller brown bags that was blotchy with grease. Afterwards, you can smell the buttery-camelized-cheddary smell of food. Little did I know it was popcorn. I tried it and I liked it. I tried more and couldn't get enough. So I decided to check this place out myself.

My dentist is downtown. Every time I go, it's imperative that I go to Garret's. Not knowing what I was up against, I still failed to heed my mother's warning. The place looked rather small on the outside and kinda made me feel like it was an ATM for food. The line began outside! When I stepped through the door, I moved to paces to the right and I ordered. There were a variety of flavors to choose from including; cashew, pecan, and macadamian caramel, cheese, buttery, caramel crisp, and plain popcorn. The best part is that you can mix up the popcorn that sounds most appealing to you. I personally always go for the cheese and caramel mix. I've yet to taste a stale kernel, this popcorn is crispy fresh. The price range is pretty high-end for such a small shop. The order process was slow, but I mean this place was packed with tourists and regular Chicagoans. I left with more than I should have, 1-gallon worth of popcorn! The 20-minute train ride home, it was all gone.

If movie theaters sold Garrett's Popcorn, I would riot about why this hadn't been done sooner. This place will get addicting, so heed MY warning. There are some things around Chicago that live up to a hype, Garrett's being one of them. Anyone from out of town has to check this place out. Always carry some kind of wet napkins with you when you eat the popcorn, I, unfortunately, learned the hard way. Be sure to order some from the website if you live miles away and join the hype. It will be well worth it.
