January 17th was an extremely epic day in my life this year. It was of course my 21st birthday. Now don't get too excited, this post is meant for the weekend before so there of course were no shenanigans. Every year on my birthday, well for my birthday, my brother and parents take me out for dinner. It is a simple family tradition but one that I love. I absolutely love trying new restaurants with my family, the conversation is genuine and the laughs are plentiful. We decided to head to Oakbrook for a nice dinner but found ourselves with an hour and a half wait at my desired restaurant. After some debate we settled on Weber's Grill. I had three requests for my meal: a steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. It does not take much to make me happy! Our meal started with pretzel rolls and was accompanied with a cheesy spread that was absolutely delicious, it was hard not to make a meal on that alone. I ordered a file mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli that came with another superb cheese sauce. While I was extremely satisfied (and stuffed!) after my meal, my brother and father were a bit disappointed in their choice of ribs and corn bread. My best suggestion would be to stick to grilling basics and you will not be disappointed. If you are in fact celebrating a birthday, make sure to mention it, you will receive a free dessert! I split an apple crumble pie with my brother and needed help from both my parents to finish it, it was huge!
