Outcasted by society, Isabella Gardner spent her life traveling the world and collecting art ... a whole lot of art. Her Musuem was one of the most impressive, fascinating, and BEAUTIFUL musuem's I have ever been in. Walking in you are lead by a short hall to the most amaziing inside garden which is the center of the entire house for 3 stories, which my friend and I could stop saying "Oh My God" to in awe of this place. The walls of the 2nd and 3rd story were modeled after the hotel she stayed at in Venice with windows everywhere so that you could look down on the garden in every room of the house.
After finally getting over the amazing garden, we walked around the mansion to see what Isabella had to offer. Never have I ever seen such an extensive and impressive personal collection of art, every room was ornately adorned and cluttered with artwork from all over the world and from every time period. Letters from Marie Antoinette, original sketches from Michelangelo and oil paintings from Rembrandt, as well as many artifacts and collectibles from China, India, Greece, and everywhere else you can imagine. This was such an incredible home and then we found out it wasn't her home, she had another mansion in Boston on Beacon Street where she lived, she had just built this awe-inspiring place just for her art, can you imagine that?
As the garden changes for every season, and the artwork so extensive that after spending hours inside I still don't believe that I fully took in all that was offered to see, I plan to go back in the Spring. $5 with a college i.d., The Isabella Gardner Musuem is by far one of the most incredible places in Boston to visit and you would regret not stopping in to explore this ladies life and all the art she has to offer.
