Every once in a blue moon, My older sister, Kate, and I love to go out to dinner at an upscale restaurant and enjoy fine dining at its best. We always have the best time catching up, talking about stupid boys in our lives, and other sisterly topics. Well, last night we decided that we were going to go to the Art Institute of Chicago for a few hours and catch a late dinner. When we found our way out of the maze-like parking garage on Michigan Ave, we finally arrived at the institute. To our dismay, it was closed. My sister forgot to look at the hours earlier that day! We were pretty disappointed but we found plenty of other things to do, and why wouldn't we? I mean, we are in Chicago!
We had made reservations at a restaurant called 'Heaven on Seven'. Sounds like a nice place to eat right? Wrong! We got there and it was like we stopped at a surf hut! We thought maybe it would turn out to be one of those dives that serve up the best food, but we did not want to take our
chances. We started walking around the side streets of N. Michigan Avenue and stumbled across a restaurant called 'Feast Restaurant & Bar'. Well folks, we certainly found a winner! They had the most amazing menu. We started off with veggies and a selection of hummus, which was so great. Little did our taste buds know that they were going to have the treat of their lives for the main course. Kate got a gourmet turkey burger with red wine and grilled green beans. I, on the other hand, enjoyed Raviolis stuffed with butternut squash, soaked in olive oil, topped with walnuts, goat cheese, and balsamic syrup! We both about fell to the floor when we tasted our meals. From this point forward, I am going to officially count that as the best meal I have ever had in my life!
After our lovely meal, we sat around chatting, as girls often do, but then we decided it was time to find a cute, little place to get some hot tea and coffee. We found a hotel, I am blanking out on the name, and went inside to look for a small restaurant or cafe. We had no idea what was in store for us but it was amazing. After being directed to the second floor, we walked into a beautiful room with a live jazz-like band and the most beautiful selection of chocolate desserts one has ever seen! We decided to splurge and share some dessert. We had candied pears mixed with berries and the best chocolate I have ever tasted.
We had the greatest time together. All our original plans for the night had fallen through, yet it was one of the best nights we had both had in a long time! I am learning to love the unexpected!
