Mon cherie, Amelie!

Last night we went to Amelie, a very nice little wine bar on Polk Street between Washington and Clay. A few of us went for a few hours for a friend’s birthday, and it was a perfect place for the girls to get together and have a few classes of wine and some cheese and cured meats.

It was a Tuesday night, and I got there around 7.15pm, and it was already busy. Not packed, which I was grateful for, but the bar area was full, as was the seating area in the back. So we took a small table in the front next to the door, and it was nice. We were ale to sit around the table and talk, rather than in a line at the bar and yell at each other, and we could see everything that was going on in the bar. The only thing I didn’t like about it were the old school, ratty and torn, old airplane/ferry seats that they had as seating in the front. I’m sure they were supposed to look chick and cool, but in my opinion, they didn’t, they looked like old plane seats, with masking tape on them to cover up the holes! Also, they were not comfortable. I will be sitting in the back in the proper chairs next time, and yes, there will be a next time.

I am not a red wine fan, so I stuck with the whites. I had a great Sauv Blanc from New Zealand, and another one from France. Both were suggestions from the bartender/waiter, and both were excellent. We also got the cheese and charcutire plate to share. This was amazing: 3 cheeses and 4 cured meats, plus pate. It was so good! And big too, so for $25 it was ok. Still a little pricey, but ok.

This place was over all great. They actually have happy hour from 5.30-7, which unfortunately we missed, but during happy hour you can get any 3 of their wines by the glass as tasters, for $10. They are a good size. Their regular glasses are large, large, large, and the tasters are roughly about a glass and a half, for less than a glass costs! Will be going back for happy hour soon!

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans are suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.
