A Southern boy from a small town, I grew up in a hotbed of racism and poverty. My parents owned a small business, so I learned the "do's & don'ts" of business from them. As soon as I could see over the tops of the counters, every spare moment was spent working in the family business.
I learned to "do whatever it takes" to be successful from my father and his strong work ethic. His main piece of advice has served me well - "There are alot of businessmen that are smarter than me, but none of them can out-work me."
This work ethic drove me to do well in school, earn the Eagle Scout award, go on to college and graduate school, and open several businesses of my own. Throughout these journeys, I have learned many lessons...but the perseverence I learned from my father has allowed me to always overcome.
After a decade as a marriage & family therapist, I returned to my first love...business. Some think this is a strange transition, until I explain that running businesses is really just a big group therapy session. I understand and know how to cast a vision and motivate people to make that vision their reality.
I have been key in turnarounds in many industries, including retirement homes, beauty salons, insurance companies, software firms & service providers. Whatever the context, my prayer is that there is a lasting impact on people's lives first and the "bottom line" second. Giving hope and vision is my desire in each situation.
Everything worthwhile in life is rooted in Relationship. When my time on earth is done, I hope that I will be remembered as a faithful husband (married to Lisa for over 20 years), a dedicated father (to Joshua, Daniel & others I've "adopted"), and a truthful, loyal friend.
