I was born in Seoul, Korea and moved to Texas when I was 8. Growing up in Texas was tough back then with very little diversity. People use to give me blank looks when I tell them I am from Korea. How times were different back then. And the heat. It's aweful. It sucks all the energy out of you. But I survived and eventually went on to college and then to medical school. After finishing my residency in family medicine, I moved back home for a year and worked in the ER at local hospitals.
I always wanted to move out of Texas for various reasons. When a job came calling from Bellevue, WA , I packed up my bags. I joined a medical group for 4 years and worked hard but I wasn't happy. Finally, after much praying, thinking, and analyzing, I decided I was going out on my own.
So last year, I did what most physicians are abandoning, which is going into solo practice. I was scared of how I would do as a business owner, and if I would make eneugh money to cover my overhead and if there would be any money left to take home. I definitely made the right move. I have more time to spend wtih my patients and have the freedom to practice the way I want to. Business is growing and going to work is fun now. I am networking with everyone I know and adding more services to my clinic. I now offer botox and collegen injections, and also have a line of cosmetic products and nutritional supplements that I sell on the retail side. I am constantly thinking of reinventing the wheel of family medicine. Like I said, going to work is fun now.
BTW, just to make my life more interesting and hectic last year, I got married. Going on 6 month now and going strong.
Also, just to make my life little more exciting last year, I helped start an organization called Korean American Healthcare Professional Association and became the president. Let me know if you are interested in knowing more about the group.
That's all for now.
