An elegant dining room and attractive waitstaff compete for attention at this Bellevue Square-adjacent noshery.
July 05, 2006
(4.0 / 5 stars)
The Scene
This smartly casual Canadian chain expanding south of the border offers swank leather menus, a backlit bar, leather chairs, big banquette booths and a bar complete with flat-screen TVs. Suits with expense accounts take over at lunch; at night, it's a combo of a guys-night-out crowd mixed with young professionals enjoying the hip scene. Servers are gorgeous as a rule, and can rattle off the menu by heart.
The Food
The restaurant's inventive neo-American fare is better than it lets on. Playful ahi tuna tacos pack wonton "taco shells" with Asian coleslaw and a slightly spicy wasabi-lime aioli. Salad-lovers order the Evil Jungle Noodle Salad, chock full of grilled chicken breast, mango and avocado with a gingery dressing. The West Coast Halibut is Indian-themed, sitting in a curry yogurt honey sauce. Dessert includes an oozing molten chocolate lave souffle and a sweet passion fruit cheesecake.

My friend and i went to Joey's in Bellevue last night. We had wonderful service and were offered a complimentary ahi taco appetizer. The manager Christina is AMAZING and was so accommodating to my dietary needs :) Great place to go, there is something for everyone and everything I have had there has been fabulous! Great Job Joey's Bellevue,....I'll be back next time I am in town!

This place is good but not great if you compare it to all the other good places in Bellevue and Seattle.

Good food if you order right

The decor is nice, but Joey's is clearly more about attractive waitresses than about food. Their bar is super popular for older women and college age guys (you get the idea). The front desk staff have always been pleasant to me while I waited for take-out and I once got a free ltitle appetizer.
Once seated, the service is typically slow and most of the menu choices range from bland to downright greasy. However, I did discover some safe choices. Their steak is quite reasonable and it comes with a crunchy shell with mashed potato inside and cheese/sour cream on top, yum! For dessert, their molten chocolate cake with ice cream is very nice.
I used to order out a lot, where thankfully you don't have to deal with their slow service. Overall, Joey's is an unsurprisingly bland addition to Bellevue downtown.
Pros:
Sometimes good food, reasonable ambiance
Cons:
Bland food, slow service

I took my wife out to Joey's on a Saturday night. Needless to say I wanted to make it special. We decided to go to Joey's in Bellevue for dinner. We were asked to provide our name and telephone number. No problem. We were told we would have to wait 15 min for a table. No problem. We sat down and started talking / catching up etc. I look around and notice a "pretty" blond couple has sat down as well waiting for a table. No problem. A few minutes later the blond couple is asked to come into the restaurant and go to their seats. What? I signal to the hostess and she yells back to me "You guys are next". OK. But why did the other couple get in sooner? A few more minutes go by and we are asked to go to our table. As we walk up the Hostess says "I am so sorry it took so long". As soon as we get there we notice that the "pretty" blond couple is siting and ordering their food - at a larger booth while we have been seated in a smaller booth. Why? Even though there are two larger booths open next to the window. I look at my wife and we both decide Sorry Joey's - your approach to us was not fair - we are East Indian. We decide to leave before ordering - and as we do - I tell the hostess that it wasn't fair for her to seat the other couple first. She starts to argue with me saying that the other couple had been waitlisted?!? As we walk out another hostess follows says saying that "Joey's will give us a gift certificate if we come back." What?!? Again sorry Joey's but a better approach would be first come first serve regardless of skin color.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Other couples will get seated fast if they are...

We love Joey's! Start off with a stawberry lemon drop, followed by the fantastic lettuce wraps, and top it off with a molten lava souffle. It's a delicious night out!

smelly bar
October 19, 2008
(2.0 / 5 stars)
I have been to Joey's a couple times, bar and restaurant, and each time the bar always smells funny. Kinda like my old college days of going to the fraternity houses.... Food is decent, but the last experience in the bar has now confirmed that I will not be going there again. Beside the fact it smelled, the host followed us in and told our group that we were under suspect, and that we would probably not be served because he felt one our friends in our group seemed to have drank to much. We were just coming from a 40th birthday dinner and one person was a little tipsy, so somewhat understandable they may not serve him. The fact they said we all "were questionable" was insulting as we were not drunk, so we promptly left.
Pros:
Big bar
Cons:
always smells like dirty dishclothes....

Very modern and beautiful. The servers are all gorgeous as everyone else has said. The food is good and at a reasonable price (lobster tail 7 oz for only $16!) Good selection of food and drink. The service isnt excellent, we had to find our own peper shaker, but she did check in on us 5 times. The desserts are great too!
Pros:
reasonable price, good food and drink, free parking, good scene
Cons:
so-so service, dont take reservations

I didn't get poor - I got great all-around!

My bro-in-law's suggested we dine here based on a couple of his lunch experiences. And so we did to celebrate me & my twin's birthday along with our hubby's. But I came skeptical & critical about everything based on the poor reviews of Joeys left by other members. I have to say my dining experience was OUTSTANDING in every area. We were promptly greeted and chose to be seated in their outdoor patio only open for a week, on an unexpected sunny warm evening. Our server was bubbly & friendly and struck a great balance of meeting our needs without being intrusive and allowing us to enjoy our conversation and the gorgeous evening. Cool drinks and apps were served right away. I recommend their succulent hibachi style wings and gorgonzola toasted french bread. Everyone was satisfied with their entree, but I absolutely loved mine - the Filet Mignon. Now this place is not noted as a steakhouse and has a wonderfully diverse menu where I could have easily gone for a burger or chicken, a pasta dish or salad, but was craving a good steak - and they nailed it! Juicy, tender, flavorful and paired with deliciously inventive crispy mashed potatoes (like a mashed potato spring roll) and asparagus - heaven! To wrap it up: food - delicious!, price - reasonable, menu - diverse, atmosphere - casual, & just hip enough to feel special, service - prompt & friendly (even manager and other staff inquired how we were enjoying our food & service, and when I asked where the restroom was I was escorted rather than just told - I think they're definitely trying to go the extra mile!). This is my first review of any restaurant on citysearch but I felt compelled since I had nothing short of a superb experience and was ready to mark Joeys off my list based on all the negative reviews before I'd even tried it.
