Mellow, yellow neighborhood place that packs in Lincoln Parkers for comfort food.
June 14, 2006

In Short
A bustling storefront on an otherwise quiet corner, John's Place buzzes with an all-ages Lincoln Park crowd. Exposed brick and painted yellow walls, knickknacks on shelves and a wood-burning stove make for a cozy atmosphere. The healthy, globe-trotting menu works its way from hummus and veggie burritos to salads, burgers and barbecue chicken tacos. Weekends are busy, when locals pack the place for breakfast items like buttermilk pancakes and super-fluffy omelettes.

Great Brunch!
March 23, 2009
(4.0 / 5 stars)

A group of us recently went to John's Place for brunch and really enjoyed it. Luckily, they were able to accommodate our large group size and we ended up having a wonderful meal. I had the chocolate and banana pancakes, which were delicious! They also have granola with yogurt and fruit for those wanting something a little lighter. This is definitely a place that we will be going back to again for another great brunch.

OK

I went for dinner, and my experience was just ok. The restaurant itself is nice, but I was not impressed b y the menu- especially for the higher prices typical of Chicago area. Similar places in the suburbs offer a better meal for lower prices.

Soothing surrounds and very delish

I couldn't disagree more with the last angry person's review regarding John's Place.. perhaps they missed their last anger managment class...or had a fight with a JOHN in a past life. In any event, John's Place is the most accommodating, comfortable and delicious place to eat. I had the blackened Salmon and my date had a delicous burger. What made it even better, was that we happened to be there on 1/2 price bottles of wine night. Our server was fab and I can't wait to go back!!

Pros: Great Prices, great food and relaxed vibe
Cons: Can't think of one

Great little classic american restaurant that also serves a nice Sunday brunch. The Pumpkin pancakes are delicious. The turkey burger with sweet potato fries is a great choice at lunch.

WAY OVERPRICED!

$12 salad, are you kidding me, and not large either. Definitly not worth it. Southwest Chicken Salad is really good, but not work $12, more like $8. Ridiculous. Won't go back.

Cons: Way overpriced, not worth it at all!

Wished it was good...

This is a cute location, and cute decor, and I really did give it a chance. I went there for brunch and had a lackluster experience. The food is really basically passable, but no more. The omelletes were bland, the pancakes equally joyless. Yes, I know the menu is "basic" but not even the simple ingredients are pepared well. I went there recently for a salad and the lettuce was brownish on the corners, the goat cheese was sort of lumped on top as an afterthought and it was the saddest little boring salad I have ever had presented to me at a restaurant. These guys need to up the quality, particularly in a neighborhood like this, with a million other better places to go practically down the street.

Great dining experience
October 29, 2003
(4.5 / 5 stars)

I haven't had such a good dining experience in a long time.
I was recommended this place by a friend, and my first experience was phenomenal. On a Saturday night we were seated immediately in a cozy, intimate place by the fireplace. We watchched two families dining with kids few tables away and they ware having a fun time also. The server was knowlegeble and made good suggestions for our requests.
Our menu choices were the Vegetarian Chili-which was awesome! (and I don't usually like chili), the vegetarian eggplant sandwich was fresh and delicious, and the Salmon with Pesto was scrumptious. The manager also stooped by to welcome us and he was friendly and helpful.

Pros: Excellent food, Good value, Friendly service
Cons: Parking on street

John's going downhill
July 10, 2003
(1.0 / 5 stars)

I have gone to John's for a number of years and always loved the place. However, the service has recently gotten terrible. The servers have become very rude and think they're doing you a favor by taking your order. I hope they can straighten this out because they have a nice menu and location.
