A place to see and be seen, this bistro is no lightweight.
August 07, 2005
(4.0 / 5 stars)
The Scene
The lounge area overflows with attractive people ensconced in appealing decor. From the sunken seats to the rare cream and burgundy marbled bar and tabletops, Palomino offers a level of elegance that Pittsburgh has been missing. Yet, unexpectedly, it's not pretentious. The glass windows debut a very different semi-panoramic view of The Point and the other Gateway buildings. The bar area bustles and large TVs make for a vibrant game-viewing place. Just don't dress down.
The Food
Palomino offers the flavors of the Mediterranean, with hints of French, Spanish, and Italian traditions. Though notable for its adventuresome seafood, it offers equally tantalizing options for the non-seafaring diner, including pasta, risotto, lamb, steak, pork and poultry. The grilled mahi is just as well prepared as the blue marlin dressed in a kalamata olive spread. If you have trouble deciding which fish dish you want, go with whatever comes with the heavenly butternut squash risotto.

glamorous

Great for Pre-Symphony Dinner
November 10, 2006
(4.0 / 5 stars)
We decided to have a pre-symphony dinner at Palomino and were pleasantly surprised! The cheese fondue was an excellent appetizer and the bread supplied with the meal had a fantastic rosemary flavor, that when combined with the homemade spread composed of kalamata olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, onions and a twist of lemon, proved better than most pre-dinner bread offerings. The wine list at Palomino is ok, but pricey. We shared a plate of paella which was fantastic! Lots of seafood, lots of flavor! We even saw Drew Brees, quaterback of the N.O. Saints at the table next to us!
Overall, our experience was great! We've had some bad luck recently in Pittsburgh for dinners, but Palomino delivered above our expectations!
Pros:
Online Reservations, Parking Ramp attached, large menu
Cons:

Amazing and accomidating
June 12, 2006
(5.0 / 5 stars)
I had attended a rehearsal dinner a few weeks back at the restaurant. It was in the private dining room they have on the side of the restaurant. It was exquiste! The room was completely private and was only use by us the entire night. The bride and groom had selected three items to be chosen by their guests and the menus were printed on boards wrapped in ribbon that was the color of the wedding! It was titled with the bride and groom's name on the top. Palomino had made the entire evening and this special event in my friends life a memorable one! The service was flawless and overwhelmingly accomidating! I will definately return.
Pros:
Ambience and personal attention

My girlfriend and I went last night. We were running late, but they had no problem with that. We were promptly seated at the best table in the restaurant. The server was amazing, she came back several times while we were making our selection just to discuss different menu items with us, since it was our first time. The Ultimate Lemon Drop was fabulous. I got the grilled king salmon and my girlfriend had the asiago crusted trout. We are still fighting over who had the better meal, it was the best salmon I had ever eaten
Pros:
Atmosphere, Food, Friendliness
Cons:

Very nice service

The service was outstanding - everyone was very friendly. When our table was ready, they came and found us instead of giving us a buzzer, or calling our name over the speaker. We went for New Years, and they handed out lays, party noise makers, hats, etc. etc. That was really fun. There is a great view of the streets and skyscrapers of downtown Pittsburgh, too. This was a great place to eat, and a very cool bar to sit at. VERY long - plenty of seats.
I had the lobster pasta, which was excellent, but the sauce was really heavy, and I could only get through half of it. My wife had the mussels and a steak, which was perfectly done. She didn't see what she wanted on the menu, but they asked what she wanted, and she got it. Great service.
Pros:
good parking, great service, cool atmosphere
Cons:
, loud

My wife and took me here for my birthday and the food was horrable. I ordered the pallia and it came to the table ice cold. I ate what I could and I am still paying for it two days later. I sent it back and again it was ice cold. We did not get our wine until after we were done with our appitizers. Plus $31.00 for a bottle of Chateau St. Michelle, way to much. My wife had 17 people standing around her while we were trying to eat because their back room was not ready yet. The manager could care less and we only saw our server when she brought us our food and our bill. One of the worst restraunts in Pittsburgh!!!!!

Not in Pittsburgh
September 10, 2003
(5.0 / 5 stars)
I go to Palomino on a regular basis. I have had nothing but the best service, drinks, food, and hospitality here. This is nowhere to be found in Pittsburgh. I was reading the local paper recently and found out that they had won a recent Martini contest at a polo match in Hartwood Acres. The head-bartender, Melissa, had created this wonderful cocktail which I had the privlage of trying. The use of the mint was superb. I would recommend the Pittsburgh Palomino to everyone that I come across.
Pros:
Great food, Impressive Atmosphere, Attentive Service
Cons:

Overall good

(3.5 / 5 stars)
I've had a lot of trouble finding a consistently good and nice restaurant in Pittsburgh. I have now gone to Palomino's 3 times and found all to be an enjoyable experience. The ambience is on the trendy side, but warm. The menu is pretty extensive, as well as the drinks and wine menu. Yes, this restaurant is definitely on the expensive side. However, the service has always been adequate, the food very good, and the overall dining experience very good as well. Other restaurants may have a more prestigious reputation, but I find that the quality of the food is often compromised. I therefore think that this restaurant is worth a try, especially for a nice occassion dinner and consistent quality.
Pros:
Food, Ambience
Cons:
Relatively expensive
