The speakeasy-themed bar is in the hands of Wrigley stalwart Red Ivy, resulting in an over-the-top effort.
October 20, 2008

In Short
When cocktails get poured into teacups, you know you're at a speakeasy. Add the entryway through an unmarked door and vintage elements like red velvet booths, and it's a set-worthy scene. Adding to the allure: An older, more experienced bartender crafting the cocktails and a large fireplace, giving a degree of coziness rarely found in Wrigley. The vibe is more controlled than the rowdiness found at Red Ivy, although the illusion can be compromised when there is a home game.

Know Before You Go:

The bar is adjacent to and a little to the rear of the sprawling Red Ivy space--the smallish separate room is accessible through an unmarked door. However, Red Ivy employs a mysterious entry system in which you may enter and exit, but not necessarily move freely between, the two bars.

Parking:

Speakeasy or not, bringing a car to Wrigley remains a poor idea.

The Extras:

Because the space is so inviting, it's a regular scene for events. Call ahead to reserve.

When to Go:

During the week when there is no chance that the small space will act as an overflow room for the Red Ivy. It's then when you can easily pretend it's a different era.
