So not worth it
August 10, 2008
(1.0 / 5 stars)
I only have two things to say about this place: over-priced, and tasteless. Don't bother. Get on the bus and head over to Pilsen instead.
Pros:
Ambience was ok, very dark. Has a nice small bar area and small outdoor seating.
Cons:
The food was completely bland and tasteless.

Awesome Mexican food, Great Margaritas, Great Tequila list
May 12, 2008
(5.0 / 5 stars)
I have been going to this place for about 2 years. The food was good in the beginning, but it got better about a year ago. The margaritas are really good. Their food is really authentic. I know b/c my parents are from Mexico City and I lived there for 3 years. Almost everything that I have tried here is very authentic. I am a tequila lover, and they have a great tequila list. They servers and bartenders are great. If you ever need anything, one of the owners is usually there to accomodate. Very friendly, great service, great drinks, great atmosphere, and great food.
Pros:
Food, service, drinks, ambience
Cons:
Parking

Comparing this place to Taco Bell is an insult--- to Taco Bell
March 12, 2008
(1.0 / 5 stars)
The chips were burned, cold, and not crispy and the salsa was green and tasteless. The chimichanga was also very very dark, you couldn't cut the fried tortilla shell with a fork, and the meat inside was dry and tasted like cardboard. It ws terrible. Literally the worst chimi I have ever had and I have eaten hundreds of chicken chimichangas. The beans looked like they were out of can and the spanish rice out of an envelope. The only saving grace was that my $6.95 margarita was decent but a little pricey for a small. My favorite mexican restaurant in my home town charges $.99 for a small or $6.00 for a whole pitcher on Thursday nights and they are potent. $24.00 including tip for one entree and a small margarita plus $10 for a cab was a little much for such a bad experience. Judging by the number of customers in there tonight this place won't be around long although it did look like they were doing some delivery business. However, bad mexican food is bad mexican food whether its delivered or eaten inside the restaurant. This place would be perfect for Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
Pros:
It's hard to screw up a margarita
Cons:
burned hard chips, dry dry meat, bland taste, bad beans, testeless rice, overpriced

Best Margaritas in the city!
May 22, 2007
(5.0 / 5 stars)
La Cantina has the BEST margaritas in the city. Every Friday there is a great little duo that sings. They are as good as the food. I love their Pollo a la Brasa and ceviche. There is no other place like this in the Loop or South Loop. I work in the Loop and we go there for lunch all the time. They have a great lunch menu with lower prices and quick service. Highly recommended.
Pros:
Food, Ambience
Cons:
Parking

Cozy Spot w/ great eats!
February 26, 2007
(5.0 / 5 stars)
I received a postcard from la cantina & realized it was just a few blocks from my place.
So, I decided to give them a try. I stopped in on a Friday for dinner & it was very busy. They had guys playing live music, so we sat at the bar & waited for a table. The music was really cool, it kind of felt like we were on vacation. When we were seated, I noticed the place wasn't to big. However, the feeling was warm & cozy. They have a fireplace, so it makes for a romantic spot. The food was really good & the drinks were also really good. I like the atmosphere & will definitely recommend it to anyone. I intend to be a regular, it's a great spot to hang out. Food is priced right. TWO THUMBS UP!
Pros:
Cool decor, Really good food, good music, really cozy & romantic
Cons:
a bit packed, but it's not really a con. What really good place would be empty!

1 hour 40 minutes for 7 block delivery, ice cold food, terrible tacos
February 26, 2007
(2.0 / 5 stars)
I work in the service industry so I expect a lot out of restaurants for my money. When I order dinner and you tell me 45 minutes, and after 2 phone calls it arrives 1 hour and 45 minutes later ice cold, I am upset. Had the food been warm or hot and very good, this review would be a 7, but I had to eat a rubbery ice cold taco dinner and my dessert was ruined because you could not put it in a separate container as I kindly asked you to. I called up and could barely hear you, I had no idea you were a music club, as your menu screams of nice restaurant when I pay 45 dollars for 2 dinners, dessert, and an appetizer. Either figure out how to run a restaurant, or leave the South Loop. We already have a taco bell.

GREAT DRINKS AND SERVICE, BUT WHERE IS THE FLAVOR
December 27, 2006
(4.0 / 5 stars)
I LIVE IN THE HOOD AND HAVE BEEN HERE 3 TIMES. THE DRINKS ARE GREAT AS IS THE SERVICE. THE FOOD WAS GREAT THE FIRST TIME AND THE LAST TWO, THE MEAT HAS LACKED...WELL FLAVOR. I AM NOT SURE IF THEY GOT A NEW COOK OR WHAT, BUT IT HAS BEEN AVERAGE THE LAST TWO TIMES. THE CHICKEN WAS DRY AND MY WIFE'S MEAT WAS BLAND. IT IS A NICE ADDITION TO THE SOUTH LOOP, BUT STILL NEEDS A LITTLE FINE TUNING.
Pros:
DRINKS, SERVICE, AND PRICE
Cons:
AS OF LATE, BLAND FOOD!

Food, Fun, and Good Scenery in the South Loop
November 22, 2006
(5.0 / 5 stars)
I saw this place open a few months ago and never tried it. I live right by it and never was inclined to try it out. I saw it listed in Chicago magazine as a "hot spot" and decided it might be worth a try. I called to make reservations, but they don't take any. When I got there, I understood why. The place is pretty small, but very busy. I was with a few friends from the neighborhood and we had some drinks at the bar before sitting down. We tried a few different flavors of margaritas, all were awesome. The food was really good and inexpensive. Our waitress was very hot and one of my friends asked her out to no avail, but she handled it nicely. I will be back soon.
